WRITTEN EVIDENCE:
"Being a picky eater has been a longstanding quirk of mine. I’ve always avoided flavors and textures outside of my comfort zone, looking in disgust at others who could so easily shove anything edible into their mouths, ignoring how unappetizing the food appeared.
For my Sustained Investigation, I delved into the world of cuisine to explore why I disliked certain thicknesses and flavors. I used a variety of materials to represent texture and taste through my pieces, such as watercolors for muted flavors, acrylic for thicker textures, and chalk for dryness. My first piece opens with a portrait of me holding a menu, setting the stage for the culinary journey that follows. The meal begins with a watercolor representation of the discomforting moistness in appetizers like tomatoes and pickles. My next display is a handful of beets encrusted in dirt, focusing on their bitter earthiness. Bananas and hamburgers are my next target, painted in acrylic to emphasize their mushy mouthfeel. Wrapping the meal up, I have a dessert round of cake drawn with chalk, its dry texture front and center. My Sustained Investigation is a full course tour of everything that makes me a picky eater."
